Tom Spencer, Debra Prinzing & Bill Wright – on location

Bill and I had a wonderful experience today, taping an 11-minute segment on Stylish Sheds with Tom Spencer, host of “Central Texas Gardener,” a popular show on the Austin PBS affiliate, KLRU.

The show will air on June 26th – stay tuned for a link to the segment.

Tom was a delightful host, a kindred spirit in the conversation about gardening as sanctuary, sheds as shelter, places for meditation and destinations for creative expression.

Debra and Linda LehmusvirtaOur thanks to producer Linda Lehmusvirta, who not only “gets it,” but who helped me find many of our Austin shed locations when I was scouting here in January 2007.

Here is a peek of the Austin/Hill Country structures we found and photographed last year. We’re lucky to feature four terrific Texas sheds inside the pages of Stylish Sheds and Elegant Hideaways:

Williams Garden Shed

Sylvia and Steven Williams’ “Hill Country Haven”

Loretta and Terrill Garden Shed

Loretta and Terrill Fischer’s “Mod Pod”

Sutton Garden Shed

Beverly and Eldon Sutton’s “Texas Teahouse”

Bolton garden shed

Carol Hicks Bolton and Tim Bolton’s “Heart’s Content”

Isn’t Tom Spencer wonderful. I wrote about his talk on my blog when I was in Austin. It made me cry.

When I received the book today, I ran around the house showing it to everyone and saying “My friend wrote this lovely book.” They were all impressed, but surprised it wasn’t a novel. My other writer friends who are published novelists, write fiction, you see.

Beautiful book. I’m reading it cover to cover.~~Dee

Hi Dee, thanks for your note and for reminding me to go back and read your wonderful April 9th post about Tom Spencer’s talk to the Austin Garden Bloggers’ Spring Fling. Here is the link for others to find: http://reddirtramblings.com/?p=302
What struck me was his admonition to think back to our special childhood places – where we felt safe and yet felt free to venture out and explore our natural worlds. These are sacred places – a garden, a field, the top of a mountain, in a boat on a still lake, or, for that matter, inside a potting shed….this thread to the truth of things is what I keep seeking – and finding, thanks to the honesty of those I meet. xoxo Debra

Really pretty pictures. I am from Texas, north of Houston and really miss it.
