A bouquet of thanks

September 2nd, 2008

I want to share a note of thanks to a few people for their recent kind words about this blog and Stylish Sheds and Elegant Hideaways.

Judy Lowe, the longtime Christian Science Monitor’s gardening columnist, also publishes “diggin’ it,” a blog on the CS Monitor’s web site. Each week, Judy reviews and writes about favorite gardening blogs, as was the case a few days ago in a post entitled “Garden siteseeing in California.”

Here’s what Judy wrote about Shed Style:

“At Shed Style, [Debra] writes about her interests – architecture (including landscape architecture, of course), garden travels (she’s an excellent interviewer, so you learn about the creator of the garden as well as the plants), and such things as circles in gardens, which was fascinating.”

Judy singled out some of my fellow California bloggers, as well, including Philip Bewley (Philip’s Garden Blog), Shirley Bovshow (EdenMakers’ Blog), and Cindy Iverson (Rosehaven Cottage). I am in very good company. Thanks for the good words, Judy!

On August 23rd, famed New York-New Jersey-based garden writer Ken Druse invited me to appear on his podcast, “Ken Druse Real Dirt,” which airs online. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Ken, as we tossed around the notion of “what is a shed” and “how to design cool backyard structures.” You can hear Ken and his co-host Vicki Johnson every week; their show can be downloaded on iTunes, as well.

By the way, if you like the gorgeous autumn bouquet pictured above, it was created by Erin Benzakein, an incredibly talented organic flower farmer and designer in Washington state. Visit Erin at her web site, www.floretflowers.com.

Hi and I was waiting for you to see your name in lights. I saw it at diggin’it and thought it a very good review. Judy is such a sweet and smart lady. She has a great blog and has helped me write a few good topics for my post.

I came to tell you that I have never cherished a book like Stylish Sheds and Elegant Hideaways. I thought I would be ready to do a review these past two weeks but the book keeps drawing me back to do more planning on my own shed. It’s becoming a well worn book that is following me every. I need to keep it with me incase i see something I need for the shed. I need to reference the book to make sure it looks just the same or similar.
